Since 1966, even before the formal creation of the IAS, the founding members of an International Program Committee began meeting with the goal of promoting the advancement of science and education in the field of atherosclerosis on a global scale. The initial meetings were held in Athens, Greece (1966); Chicago, USA (1969); Berlin, Germany (1973); and Tokyo, Japan (1976).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 1966, even before the formal creation of the IAS, the founding members of an International Program Committee began meeting with the goal of promoting the advancement of science and education in the field of atherosclerosis on a global scale. The initial meetings were held in Athens, Greece (1966); Chicago, USA (1969); Berlin, Germany (1973); and Tokyo, Japan (1976).<\/p>

The triennial congress, known as the International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA), continues to bring together thousands of clinicians and other key stakeholders from around the world every three years. The 21st edition of ISA is scheduled for October 20\u201322, 2027, in Santiago, Chile, and will be the first-ever congress to be held in Latin America.<\/p>

Under the theme 'Cardiometabolic Health Unlocked: From Genetics to Global Impact,' the organizing committee expects to convene at least 800 attendees from different regions of the world, with a special emphasis on attracting clinicians and other healthcare professionals, researchers, students and fellows, policymakers, patients, and representatives from patient advocacy organizations across Latin America. ISA 2027 is officially supported by the Chilean National Tourism Service (SERNATUR).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Established in 1978, the International Atherosclerosis Society is a global network of physicians and scientists who collaborate to develop mission-centered programming that spans geographical and generational boundaries. While IAS counts many of the world\u2019s leading atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease experts among its membership, the society\u2019s community also includes global authorities and physicians from related disciplines as well as allied health professionals, fellows, students and partners within the policy and patient advocacy communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The society represents over 40,000 health professionals and key stakeholders in more than 94 countries. Additionally, over 96 scientific societies maintain active membership in the IAS, which represents them through the World Heart Federation. The IAS is a non-profit public educational organization, incorporated under 501(c)(3) status, and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
